Help more students discover their passion for STEM!

I am a member of the MN Junior Academy of Science, a small group of students who have been recognized for our achievements at Minnesota State Science & Engineering Fair after spending years exploring, researching, and competing in science fair events.

Participating in the State Science Fair has opened doors to incredible opportunities. I’ve been mentored by dedicated educators and scientists, introduced to diverse STEM research fields, and connected with peers who share the same enthusiasm for discovery. Along the way, I’ve forged lasting friendships.

As a wide-eyed ninth grader who was new to science fairs, my first encounter with the MN Junior Academy of Science was a welcoming experience. My project focused on finding a solution to plastic pollution and food waste, and there were so many people who were genuinely interested in what I had to present. Because of the MN Junior Academy of Science, I met brilliant peers, and not only was I able to bounce ideas off of them, but they opened my mind with their incredible projects that have the potential to change the world. I encountered many wonderful, supportive mentors and judges at the fair who didn’t hesitate to reach out and give feedback. All these people from the MN Junior Academy of Science empowered me as I presented my project on an international level at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). Even now, as I continue my passion for research and finding answers, the MN Junior Academy of Science continues to support me, and I’m excited to see what the next fair might bring.

Experiences like that have broadened my understanding of what’s possible in the world of science and technology. Now, I want to ensure that future generations of students will have the same chance to discover their passion for STEM through hands-on learning and competition.

Last year, the MN STEM community rallied to save the State Science Fair when a major corporate sponsor withdrew its support. I am reaching out now to build on that generosity and help create a sustainable base of support moving forward.
